TMJ – 103 The Clicking and Popping Joint

There are several symptoms of TMJ condition such as pain in the jaw joint, a clicking and then standing out jaw, headaches, facial discomfort, buzzing of the ears, neck pain, as well as back pain.

While there are numerous possible reasons, one the main causes is an unbalanced bite. This is the third of a collection of video clips exploring the bite as well as how it influences the TemporoMandibular Joints (TMJ). symptoms.

TMJ – 103 Internal Derangement shows the reason that some jaw joints click or pop when opening. This kind of discrepancy is extremely unpredictable as well as could or could not have some of the various other symptoms related to it. This interior derangement of the clicking jaw joint might lead to a shut lock (see TMJ -104).

Hello, Do you think I may have this?. Talking and eating is fine but when I
try and open my jaw fully I have to go to the right first and then down
otherwise it locks on my left side. It also pops at the same time. No pain
at the moment, just an annoyance, and scary when it locks!

I think I’ve had this for sometime. I have braces, would that fix overtime?
I also have a habit of popping my ears frequently.

i’ve had tmj for a while now and a few years ago the right side of my jaw
started to act up and the clicking stopped but it felt as tho my jaw was
really tight to open and i was feeling a lot pain when trying to open my
jaw. after a while i started to get use to the pain and the tightness, and
my jaw would open just fine. then after a few days i could still feel the
tightness but the pain was a lot lower than when it started. now i dont
feel the clicking or the pain anymore, but this is now happening to my left
side and i was wondering if im possibly out growing it some how….

The disc thing in my case, on my left and right side are not where they are
supposed to be, they are lower. Is there anything I could do to put them
    back in place?

So about 8 days ago I was yawning and felt a loud pop/crack on my right
jaw. It was painful at first but the next night it went away and I was able
to eat just fine and open my jaw wide. However, the next couple of nights
afterwards changed as I heard and felt the pops again when trying to eat or
when I open my jaw too wide. Each time a little and little more painless.
Since then I’ve been on a soft diet and applying a warm compress on my jaw
along with taking some ibuprofen to lessen the swelling. I still feel a
little stiffness and soreness in my jaw muscle and I’ve been slowly moving
on to more solid foods which have been fine since I chew slowly and
carefully and try not to extend my jaw too wide. Now my main issue is that
I don’t know how much better my jaw has gotten and I’m afraid to test the
joint by opening my jaw wide. I have not seen any dentists or specialists
yet but wanted to try some kind of conservative therapy on my own. Do you
have any recommendations on how to “test” my jaw to see if it is back to
normal? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for your time and
    wonderful video!

I havent seen anyone with my exact jaw problem..

i dont get the clicking at all. Buti feel like i have to pop both sides of
my jaw like every ten minutes. My jaw is especually tense on the morning
and it feels really tight until i pop both sides..

in the morning it can take me anywhere from 1min-4hrs to get my jaw to pop
and loosen up. After it pops once it is much easier to keep popping
    throughout the day.

I have had this issue for over ten years and i never feel pain unless i
stress my jaw muscles too much.

+sksk2 : You have two issues.
The title of this video is Clicking and Popping because either could be a
dislocated disk. The only way to know if the joint noises are true
dysfunction is to get an MRI. I would highly recommend for you to get
evaluated by a dentist that treats TMJ.

The second issue is that you wake up with the tight jaw muscles. From my
thirty years of experience I will say with a 95% degree of certainty that
there is dysfunction in your body (usually an unstable sacrum). This would
be best evaluated by a GOOD chiropractor. I write GOOD because not all of
them are. If you just treat the bite issue, it is unlikely that the morning
      jaw tightness will go away.

      January 5, 2016 at 11:30 pm

+Gregory Pucel Thank you for the response. My jaw literally pops the same
way my other joints.. been doing it for over 10 years.. do you think it
will end up causing me problems farther down the road if continued? i
      really appreciate your response.

    • Gregory Pucel

      January 6, 2016 at 2:31 pm

+sksk2 : Honestly there is no way to tell over the internet. I had a click
in my own left jaw joint for 15+ years before it became an issue that
needed to be treated. However, the clenching and the jaw tension that you
are experiencing is exacerbating the problem and if you decide to get your
body issues unwound it would alleviate alot of the inordinate force that
you are putting on your jaw joints.

    I don’t know what my condition is…

my right jaw joint is loose, I think, and if I tense it and close at the
same time it pops. Every couple days my jaw joints start to ache (only 1 of
em each time) so I push my finger on the joint and move my jaw forward and
it makes the loud ripping/crunching noise, my jaw then feels relaxed; when
I’d move my jaw after that a squishy sound happens.

    please explain

      March 1, 2016 at 4:58 pm

+sj.rocky you need to consult with a dentist that treats TMJ.
Unfortunately, I cannot make a diagnosis from your description.

    building back teeth means implant?

    • ZenZill

      April 20, 2016 at 4:59 pm

+tej tezz Changing the physical proportions of your posterior teeth: could
be a denture (or night guard/orthotic— for TMD), veneer, implant, or
composite filling- all depends on your dentition.

my jaw pops in the morning, loud crack like a knuckle crack, after that its
a silent soft crack(if that makes sense) untill my jaw sits for a while
then it can crack loud again, my wife says she can hear it across the room.
is this the same as tmj and would getting a mouth guard help

    • Gregory Pucel

      May 11, 2016 at 7:25 pm

+Dustin Pittman : Yes it is likely that TMJ causes the soft and loud
cracks, but you would need a dentist to diagnose it for you. The treatment
would vary by dentist so I am not sure what would help you without a lot
      more data.
